Ruzo is Boulder's newest family-owned coffee shop. Founded by locals with a love for this city and community, Ruzo aims to be a place for people from all walks of life to meet and bond over delicious beverages.

Meet The Team

Matthew McDaniel

Owner

Matthew graduated from Front Range Community College in 2023 with an associate’s degree in political science. Since he was sixteen, Matthew has worked as a barista to support himself through school while participating in political programs and more community projects. He enjoys video games, backpacking, and bonsai.

Jordan McDaniel

Owner

After graduating from Boulder High, Jordan moved to Eugene, Oregon, with his best friend. There, he pursued an associate's degree in business management. While in Eugene, Jordan supported himself by working for a property management company and waiting tables at a sushi restaurant. In lieu of continuing to a four-year school, Jordan took this opportunity to move back to Boulder and open Ruzo. He is very excited to apply what he's learned and reconnect with the Boulder community!

Koyuki Skye Aker

Koyuki grew up in between Boulder and Tokyo. She attended BHS and is now getting her BFA at CU. Koyuki has been painting for about 8 years and specializes in graphite and oils. Growing up, She spent lots of time drawing in local cafés. One day, she decided that she wanted to know what it would be like to be on the other side of the counter. She has one year of barista experience and is eager to keep learning about the craft under the guidance of the ruzo team.

About the Owners

Matthew and Jordan are twin brothers who were born and raised in North Boulder. They are thrilled to be contributing to their community by opening a coffee shop!

With an entrepreneurial attitude and hard work, the twins saved up enough money to open a business of their own. After seeing this space on Broadway for lease, they thought it would be the perfect opportunity to contribute to their community by opening a coffee shop.

The name “Ruzo” is inspired by their Japanese-American heritage, but it has no official meaning.

Matthew and Jordan believe in the importance of supporting the local community. Ruzo partners with Boulder County businesses for their coffee beans, baked goods, and merchandise.
